Honouring History, Live: Behind the VE Day Stream for World of Tanks

To mark Victory in Europe Day, World of Tanks hosted a commemorative livestream that blended rich historical storytelling with immersive digital content for fans across the globe. BBX was proud to be the production partner for this special broadcast, delivering a high-quality, multi-camera live stream experience from start to finish.

Our objective was to create a visually compelling and technically flawless show that honoured the significance of VE Day and the effects that tanks had during WW2 while leveraging the power of modern broadcast technology to engage audiences in real time. From concept to execution, BBX handled the entire production pipeline — including system design, on-site setup, live switching, audio mixing, and final delivery.

Camera & Vision System

At the heart of the visual capture were four Blackmagic Design URSA Broadcast cameras, two positioned in the main studio space and two roaming cameras. These cameras provided broadcast-quality images, ensuring every moment of the show — from on-screen talent to gameplay footage and live interviews — looked cinematic and professional.

The camera feeds were routed through a custom-built PPU (Portable Production Unit) rack, designed in-house by BBX. This modular setup provided centralised video control, signal distribution, and monitoring — a scalable solution tailored for flexible deployment in live environments.

Live Mixing & Graphics

For vision mixing, replay, and real-time graphics, we integrated a custom VMix machine into the system architecture. This powerful setup allowed for:

  • Seamless switching between cameras and media sources
  • Integration of branded lower-thirds and motion graphics
  • Real-time overlays for in-game stats and viewer interactions
  • Synchronised playback of pre-recorded content and stingers

This workflow allowed our operator to maintain tight editorial control, delivering a polished live product that matched the energy and tone of the World of Tanks brand.

Audio Production

Audio clarity was critical for a broadcast of this nature. To ensure pristine sound quality across voice, game audio, and ambient mics, we deployed a Yamaha QL5 Sounddesk. This digital mixer gave us full control over every input channel, EQ, and FX processing, while also handling multiple outputs for both stream and in-room monitoring.

Microphones were carefully placed to capture natural dialogue and maintain consistent levels throughout the show — a must for smooth transitions between speakers and segments.

Impact

Broadcast live to a global audience, the VE Day livestream reached thousands of viewers across Twitch and YouTube. The event was not only a tribute to history, but also a demonstration of how thoughtful production design can elevate content and create a deeper connection with fans.

BBX is proud to have played a part in this meaningful project and continues to push the boundaries of hybrid broadcast production for gaming, esports, and branded content.
